I am so bummed. It’s Thursday. It’s pre-season. There’s supposed to be football tonight. Why is there no football? I don’t get it. I thought there was always football on Thursday during pre-season. I mean our two home pre-season games are both on Thursday night! I was all set to come home, do a few things, and watch football. I check the schedule when I get home to see who is playing and what? I can’t find one game. Not one game is on tonight. There should be football tonight to get everyone back in the habit of Thursday night football. I just don’t get it. Is it Friday yet?
My team is 2-0. It’s pre-season. I have such mixed emotions. The starters looked better Saturday night in their second game. Concern is they have not scored a touchdown, only field goals. Does this mean I should take our field goal kicker on my fantasy team?
We can’t win on field goals. Our defense looks so much better than last year. Then again if they looked any worse I might have to take pepto-bismol before the games as I literally would be nauseous. They were horrible last year.
Our back-up quarterback hasn’t done too bad which I guess is reassuring? Game three is the one that matters. Well not in the standings or anything but it matters in that our starters will play their starters. Saturday night will give a better idea on where our team is in readiness for the season. I hope I only see our kicker for PAT’s.
I’m so excited! What a great weekend! There was football Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and now today, Sunday! AND there will be football tomorrow night! It’s like I died and went to football heaven! I have to remind myself it’s pre-season. You’re not going to see many of the starters.
Why am I so excited? Is this normal? Do others get this excited about pre-season football games? Or is it just excited that there’s football? Is it because my football bank account is overdrawn, in the negative? There’s not been any deposits since February.
Watching and listening to the crowd I don’t think I’m the only one. The crowd is cheering like the game really means something. I guess if we admit it, in someways it just might.
Love my new ring! I got it when I went to the Pro Football Ultimate Fan Association meeting in Canton, OH, the weekend of the Hall of Fame. More on that in another blog. One of the other fans was selling football rings in team colors. How cool is that! I mean there was no question I had to have it. It was calling out, no screaming out my name. I couldn’t resist and there was no way I was going to think about it and wait. She only had one and I couldn’t chance the other female fans in the group, who just happen to have the same team colors, not necessarily the same team, buy it. No that just couldn’t happen and if it had that would have ruined the weekend. In less than 20 seconds it was mine. Everyone knows a girl can never have too much bling! I love to be sporting my team colors and if it sparkles all the better. We all know it’s the accessories that make the outfit. Bling rings, bracelets, earrings, necklace, watch, maybe even a little sparkle on the shirt. Can’t wait to go to the next game to wear it again. Or until the weekend when it’s an away game and well, it will be an all blue and orange day.
Football is back! Ok so it’s just pre-season but it’s football. It was so great to be at Soldier Field last night. Weather was awesome! The starters didn’t look like starters. The defense allowed a touchdown on the first series. Not good. The Dolphins just marched down the field. I had visions of last year and I
didn’t like it. I said to the guy in front of me, “I’ve seen this movie before (last year) and I don’t like how it ended.”
Though I know I can’t draw any conclusions from the first pre-season game. They don’t game plan and our starters didn’t play much. We did end up winning, 27-10. I’m happy they won but I know I can’t get too excited about a win and I can’t get too bummed about a loss. I just keep repeating it’s pre-season, it’s pre-season. The real battle and when it counts begins in a month.
I love my new Bears bling ring. It’s so cool. Time for bed now, will talk bling next time.
So excited! The NFL draft is coming back to Chicago. It was such a fun weekend this past year. Every team was represented by a least one fan. The city did a fabulous job putting the weekend together. The weather was fabulous! One more item to check off my bucket list. Well sort of. I always wanted to go to New York for the draft. Going to it in Chicago is even better! Though I still have the goal of being there, in the auditorium, when they announce the first pick and the entire first round. Maybe next year, though tickets are ridiculously priced.
I’ll never forget this past draft, day three, sixth round, as I was honored to have been asked by my beloved Bears to announce our pick. I was in disbelief when I got the call. I never imagined I would be on stage announcing one of our picks.
Well, it’s late and we have our first pre-season game tomorrow and it’s home so it will be a late one. I’ll write more on announcing the pick soon.
Two days and counting. Football season begins! Ok so not officially football season, but it’s football and after waiting over seven months to see my team play I’m counting it. Pre-season is not only the team’s time to get everything in order, it’s my time too. It is my opportunity to get back in the groove and make sure I’m ready for when the the season officially starts, our first “regular” season game. For the most part, after 20 seasons of being a season ticket holder, I have it down. For some reason though, I like knowing I have a two “practice” games to make sure I’ve remembered my radio to listen to the game broadcast, seat cushion, all jewelry, rings, bracelets, watch, necklace. Actually I really can’t remember a time I’ve forgotten anything. I usually have everything in order. Hopefully after the game Thursday, I’ll feel that way about my team.
I wrote Tailgating Tales: Diary of a Female Football Fan several years ago. It was a year long journey into my life as a diehard football fan. The book is a diary from training camp to training camp and traces how my love and passion for my football team encompasses my life.
Tailgating Tales was more than a play by play of one fan’s football season. It was about a passion for the game. It’s about loving something so much one’s life becomes totally immersed in it.
As all diehards know, being a true fan incorporates the depths of your soul. It was a brief look into mine.
It’s time to continue the journey.
