Training camp is still two months away. With no play-off hockey to tide me over until then, it’s starting to be a very long off-season. We had the draft party a month ago which helped but we had no first or second round pick.
Thank goodness the weekend after next is the Bears 100th Year Celebration weekend! It will be Friday night, ALL DAY Saturday, and Sunday morning of nothing but BEARS talk!!!
Many of the past Bears, including my all-time favorite player, Gary Fencik, as well as many of the current players, will be there. Looking so forward to all the seminars.
I’m excited for the season to start not only to celebrate 100 years of Bears football but to see if we can continue and improve upon last season’s 12-4 record.
What’s getting you through the off-season?
I heard a rumor that the 2019 season, which is also not only the NFL’s 100th season, but the 100th season for the Chicago Bears, will kick off in Chicago with the Bears taking on their arch rival Green Bay Packers. This is also the oldest rivalry in the NFL. Typically in recent years, the Super Bowl champs kick off the season on Thursday night. It only makes sense though the charter franchise of the NFL would kick off the 100th season. Sometimes rules are meant to be broken.
Fans of the New England Patriots may disagree. Would the NFL have done this if the Rams had won? Did they figure since the Patriots have won six Super Bowls in the last 18 years, they’d be ok giving up the spotlight in the season opener? Or was this decided before the Super Bowl was played and the NFL is actually getting it right?
I think this is the right thing to do. Several years ago the rumor was the NFL was considering opening the 100th season in China. What? That would have been one of the stupidest moves they’d made. Full disclosure, I’m a Bears fan who’ll be waiting all off season for that Thursday night.
